Carmen Loiselle est chercheure seniore au Centre de recherche en sciences infirmières et directrice de projet à l’Institut Lady Davis pour la recherche médicale à l'Hôpital Général juif de Montréal. Elle est également professeure au département d'oncologie et à l'École de sciences infirmières Ingram de l'Université McGill, et directrice du Programme de soins infirmiers en oncologie. Elle était la directrice du programme PORT (Programme en oncologie psychosociale pour la recherche transdisciplinaire), financée principalement par les IRSC. Elle est récipiendaire d'une bourse de carrière en recherche du Fonds de la recherche en santé du Québec (FRSQ) et elle a reçu d’importantes subventions de fonctionnement des Instituts de recherche en santé du Canada (IRSC), du Conseil de recherche en sciences humaines du Canada et de Santé Canada. Elle a siégé à des comités d'évaluation par les pairs de l'IRSC, l'Institut national du cancer du Canada (INCC), l'Initiative canadienne sur le cancer du sein (ICCS), et du FRSQ.

Son champ de recherche comprend les comportements de recherche d’informations des patients et la prise de décisions; la communication patient-professionnel de la santé, l’oncologie psychosociale et l'utilisation des technologies de l'information dans soins aux personnes atteintes de cancer.

Auteure de plusieurs publications, elle et des collègues ont publié Canadian Essentials of Nursing Research (2004, 2007, en cours) et son adaptation française : Méthodes de recherche en sciences infirmières : approches quantitatives et qualitatives (2007).
